want to cross from donegal to derry
My wife and I are spending our 20th anniversary in the Northwest of the republic and have Grianan Aileagh on our sites list. It seems a perfect opportunity to cross into Derry for an overnight stay and on to the Giant's Causeway, then back over to Donegal. How should we plan/what can we expect making such a border crossing. It seems it could be our most exciting part of the trip - I hope it's not too complicated.
Thanks,
Thanks,

Just drive over. No problems at all. If you are renting a car in the Republic, it may or may not have both kilometres/hour and miles/hour on the speedometer. NI signage is in miles/hour so you need a cheat sheet to give you an idea of how fast you are driving.
Northwest and NI are a great choice. Enjoy!!!

"what can we expect making such a border crossing."
You can usually tell by a slight change in the colour of the tarmac (it's usually a bit darker on the UK side). It depends on the specific road you're using - but often there'll be no indication you've changed country at all. Sometimes, there'll be road signs not far from the border itself, so if they're only in English, you'll know you're in the UK. Otherwise it might be some time before you know you've crossed at all.
Normally, there are no formalities of any sort, though if the Real Scum are killing policemen or soldiers again, there might be police checkpoints.

When we went it was like driving from one state to another. The Giant's Causeway is well worth the drive. We also enjoyed the rope bridge, it's not far away.

One more FYI just in case it's needed: You probably know this already but NI used the pound, not the euro.
