Tour the city in France
Not to take a tour, but Tour France.
We will be there one day/one night but I do want to make the most of it. We will be staying at Hotel Turone. So any info on the hotel and surronding area would be appreciated.
Thanks, Theresa in Detroit.

It sounds like you are on a tour with Tours France-? To see the most of the city, maybe check into OpenTour hop-on hop-off buses. They have 4 routes, you can buy a pass for one day for unlimited use. You will get to see most all of the city of Paris. Then you could take an evening cruise on the Seine and see the lovely architecture lit up at night, not to mention the sparkling Eiffel Tower.

Tours is way down on my list of interesting cities in France. The Cathedral is great, but too much of the town was blown up in WWII and not rebuilt in the best of styles. The old section of town is small.

You will be in the heart of the Loire and so it would be easy to see a château or two. The closest would be Villandry and Azay-le-Rideau, both about 1/2-hour away by car. BTW Villandry is my favourite, with its stunning gardens.
I agree with the consensus that Tours is best as a base rather than a destination.

I will be in Tours with a pack of teenagers. we are visiting Cheanonceau and Chambord and the Catherdral. Does anyone know of any good restaurants near the Hotel Turone? After the kids are settled in for the night I will go out on my own.

Teenagers=settled for the night?? Not on the "tour" I went on many years ago! Ha-ha-ha.
Sorry, Tours is not my fave, either. But you can go to lespagesjaunes, put in your hotel adress and ask for restaurants in the area and get a listing of nearby places. Some may have websites, as well.

Thanks Klond
Yeah, That does sound like a crazy thing. But I have been on trips with this school several times and believe it or not, we have never had any problems with the kids. Thank God. Thanks for the webpage, I'm going to check it out right now.

I liked Tours, especially the Cathedral, which has beautiful stained glass. There are also a couple of interesting museums. I spent a couple of nights there on a 10 day trip to the Loire Valley, so Tours was just one small stop - but I was glad I stayed there for the 2 nights.
