Tour in Salzburg- which one?

I was wondering, if anyone had a suggestion. We are going to be in salzburg from the 27-30th of Dec.

Since its only 3 nights, I was looking at 1 outside trip, either
Hallstatt Tour with Bob , or Bavarian Mountain Tour, but will not show the eagles nest, or saltmines as they are only till Oct.
3rd option- is doing a Horsedrawn Sleigh Ride?

thank you!

The salt mines in Berchtesgaden are open all year, but hours are only from 11.30 to 15.00 in winter.

Ash,

Check out this thread for ideas as well.

I think instead of paying to go on the Bavarian Tour we may take a bus and check out the cities ourselves. I haven't got all the details worked out just yet, but Images2 seems to have a lot of information. Ask her specifics about bus numbers, pricing, etc. I'm still trying to decide if I want us to go to the salt mines in Berchtesgaden or if we want to go check out St. Gilgen and the lake. We are doing 3 nights from Dec 22-25 and are planning on doing one outside day trip as well.

I don't know about the Hallstatt tour with bob, but we just loooved Halstatt this fall.

It is really a special place. My daughter and husband enjoyed the salt mine tour there.

Here is a link to our blog pages that start here and then continue in the next two entries with pictures and info:

We stayed a few days, but we have been to a lot of places in Europe and Halstatt stood out.

You can find out the Austrian bus #'s for any journey in Austria on the OEBB train web site. Just put in your departure and arrival cities and the bus routes show up along with the trains available!

The only tour we've taken from Salzburg was Bob's Tour of Sound of Music and we had a great time--even DH who was very sceptical. We're taking Bob's Silent Night tour on Christmas Eve and looking forward to it.

We did Hallstatt on our own last year and LOVED the place. We did the salt mine, toured the church and the fascinating chapel of bones beneath the church, walked through the village and just sat and enjoyed the view, the ambiance, etc. In the summer, they have this great bar/Internet site right on the lake that we spent a lot of time at. Don't know if it's open in winter and don't know how Hallstatt is on tour, but it's a wonderful Austrian village that we would love to visit again.

Lady,

Did you visit Hallstatt with a car or by bus or train? It seems a bit difficult to get to by public transportation from Salzburg. We'd love to go though!

Are you packing? Just one more week for you, lucky Lady!

Images, we went there by car. DD had gone there the year before by train/boat and thought it was awesome. We stayed at Braugesthaus B&B. We had a triple and the owner SWORE that the single bed in the room belonged to Johann Strauss. I was inclined to believe her!! DH and I took turns sleeping in it. Fun. We're so glad we went to Hallstatt. Wish we had time to do it this trip, too.

We're doing a practice pack this weekend. I cannot believe that we leave in one week. Christmas should be MONTHS away by my calculation. Gosh, how time flies when you get old :)

Thanks for the information about Hallstatt Lady. I know we just need to book a summer trip at some point and rent a car!

Although I don't consider you or I "old" I did make a point of being old to my grandaughter as we were making Christmas cookies together Friday evening. She's 7. She was so wise with her reply "Grandma, if you weren't old, you wouldn't have any grandchildren"! What a sweetie!
