Tour Groups in Italy

I am planning a solo trip to Rome and was checking into different tour groups: Insight, Brennan. I've never been to Italy and was hoping a tour will give me an overview.

Any thoughts about those specific tour groups or tours in general would be appreciated. Thanks.

Doris, most of the standard large tour companies will give you an informative and enjoyable tour of Italy. My vote would be for Insight Tours. I have also taken tours alone and they worked out very well. Let me know if you would like any more info on this experience. Happy travels - Helen

I second Insight for a standard tour. And for a solo traveller, you really can't get an overview of a country cheaper than doing a tour.

Insight stays in the center of town, so that as a solo traveller you can skip out to a tourist site or cafe much easier than if you're in the 'burbs.

They also include alot of extras that are additional costs on Trafalgar. If Brennan stays in the center then ask them about extras, as they can add up to about $400-500 USD.

Be sure whichever tour you take stays at least two nights in the places you want to see, and try to tack on some time to the end of the tour to stroll around Rome for a few days and really get to see the sights. There are usually some stragglers from the tour staying on in the last stop, but it's not guarenteed.

Watch the single supplements, I know Insight will hook you up with a same sex partner, but I don't know about Brennan. I've had no problems with my roomies on tours, you don't spend much time in the room anyways. I hope this helps! Ciao!

Thank you very much for your input. I will book w/Insight since both of you thought they were fine.

Staying an extra day or so after the tour sounds like a good idea.

Thanks.

Hi. My husband and myself will be leaving this Saturday for Italy from Toronto on Globus. We will be touring the whole of Italy for two weeks. The hotels are very central and the tour is first class. I have not heard anything negative about this tour company and it is comparable to Insight. I will report back when we return in November to let you know how it was. You can research most hotels in Italy on the net with pictures and maps as I have done this for our trip.
