Toulouse to San Sebastian

Hello!

We will be in Toulouse and want to visit San Sebastian for 3-4 nights. We will have a rental car in Toulouse. What will be the best way to get to San Sebastian. Will we pay extra to take our car rental out of the country to Spain. After San Sebastian we will be going to Bordeaux so will need a car again. Any tips on the logistics would be greatly appreciated. We prefer not to fly and do not want to take the train.

TIA

You don't need to pay extra to take your car out of France and into Spain unless you leave it in Spain. But you say after SS you're going to Bordeaux, so presumably you wouldn't need to leave the car in Spain.

Not sure what you mean by logistics. A quick look at a map should show you the various routes you can take to get to San Sebastián from Toulouse. It all depends on how much time you have for this trip and whether you want to make stops along the way. If you don't want to make stops, frankly taking the train could be a lot easier. Or just hop on the A64.

The Michelin map company's website is a bit clunky to use, but it provides helpful info such as whether an expressway charges tolls.

You should probably ask the rental company to be sure (about taking it to Spain), just in case it affects the insurance coverage/cost somehow. That's the only thing I can think of.

I like to use www.mappy.fr. It shows you tolls also and is very easy to use.

Bypassing Biarritz, St.-Jean-de-Luz, Bayonne and Espelette? Just wondering as we were planning on staying a week in the French Basque Country before heading to San Sebastian later this year.

<<Bypassing Biarritz, St.-Jean-de-Luz, Bayonne and Espelette?>>

Well, the OP said they were going to Bordeaux after San Sebastiàn, and all of those places are logical stops on their way to Bordeaux, so I can't imagine why they'd want to repeat the route (except for the southern parts that would require a repeat on the A64). The obvious choice on their way to SS is the A64, through St-Gaudens,Tarbes, Pau, and Bayonne. But as I said, it depends on how much time they have to get to SS. If they have a few days, then they could take myriad routes, e.g., wandering through Auch and Dax and then south.

I've seen info that says in Spain driver has to have spare pair of spectacles in car in license says they need them to drive.
