Toulouse restaurants

Looking for a good restaurant in Toulouse. Doesn't have to be fancy, just good food for a decent price.

Meeting friends and will only be there for the night.

Thanks for your help.

Le Bibent

Christian Constant's new restaurant (actually, it is an old historic restaurant) in the main square in Toulouse.

I'd say that Le BIbent is more in the 'fancy' range - hamburger with foie gras for 25 Euros is not what most of us eat.

How about the Brasserie des Beaux Arts? Nice atmosphere, cheaper than Le Bibent, nice neighbourhood - come out and walk along the river. http://www.brasserielesbeauxarts.com/en/

Tanks for the suggestions. I guess I should have been a little bit clearer.

Our friends are not into "fancy" French food. Plain and simple would suit them. We like a little more upscale...any suggestions to meet in the middle.

Another enthusiastic vote for Brasserie des Beaux Arts. Look up the menu.

Well, it doesn't get much plainer than steak-frites and this place does a good job of it. In fact, that's all they do. No options.

The line forms before it opens but once seated you aren't rushed. Short walk from Place Capitole.

I've had lunch at Bibent, it's very good with choices of several small plates as well as pricier items. Stop in for a drink if you have time, it's an interesting restoration of one of the oldest cafés in Toulouse.

My experience at the Brasserie des Beaux Arts was disappointing.
I had a lovely meal at Restaurant Le 19, but it has since gotten some inconsistent reviews.

In addition to Bibent, we've had two nice dinners at Emile's

It's been a while, but we really liked Emile, nice location, outdoor dining, good food.

Eating out in Toulouse's city centre is rather hit and miss. I thought Bibent was overpriced though it's a great location if you want to 'people watch'. On 'Place St. Georges', you can't beat St. Emile's for consistency in food quality, presentation and value.

For those on a budget (and what does 'reasonable price' actually mean? surely this is subjective?), I would recommend 'Meet the Meat'. Bvd Strasbourg, good value for money and no problems with the notorious French table service. More or less same price as Entrecote without the queues and oily chips.
You can see my other reviews of Toulouse restaurants on tripadvisor under Dubai Journalist.
