Toulon

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has spent some time in Toulon, France. It is in the south, between Marsielles and Cannes. Is it a good place for a family vacation?

Toulon itself is a 200,000 inhabitants town and a state marine port. As a matter of fact, it is not a seaside resort! However you can find some seaside resorts on the coast nearby such as Bandol, Les Lecques or St Cyr sur Mer.

I studied in Toulon for a semester. But I'm not sure what you would do there for a family vacation. It is mainly a naval and seaport, but has a few beaches. But Joelle is right, it is not a seaside resort. If you have any further questions, feel free to e-mail me.

Carrie,
Are still out there after 5 years? What are the archives for anyway?

I must stay in Toulon for 2 nights. It doesn't sound like the garden spot of France and I saw your message from 2000. Can you make some suggestions for what you would do for 1 1/2 days in Toulon. Any great restaurants?

Thanks!

Toulon is the home of the French Navy, and to more whore infested little bars than I've seen anywhere. The waterfront is fascinating, featuring all sorts of characters from the south side of the Mediterranean. If you're looking for a different world in France, you've got it. Maybe you could write a news story?

Hopscotch,
Cool beans! So Toulon is the underbelly of France? My husband will be there on official Navy business, and he is one kinky guy (he made me write that). What are yor favorite bars in Toulon?

Vivia la France!
