Spain's EL PAÍS newspaper reported today that the new smoking ban has been observed in bars and restaurants but ignored at the hospitals entrances on first day of ban.

IMO, the newspaper meant "a majority observance"-there are thousands of bars and restaurants in Spain. Also, "a majority inobservance" at hospitals.

Just read EL PAÍS's last edition on line: 'more than 700 complaints lodged with the FACUA'

hmm. now we can be the smoking police writing in/denouncing our anti-complying locations/persons to the government and become volunteer inspectors for them. brilliant idea in times of crisis.

Can we also email and denounce all the other "crimes" we observe all day long?

not picking up doogie doo

running muy red lights

snorting cocaine at stop lights ( only see this occasionally)

people taping cleaning women and caretaker ads to our very nice lampposts ( If i SEE them in the act,, they hear from me). easy to track them down since they give the phone number, but the city hall does nothing about it in spite of my "suggestions".

throwing papers on ground

hmm. i may be spending my life on the computer.

I am totally offended by the TV going on about how we can write in our findings to a certain website. this is too much.

Reminds me of a certain era...

I too think we in Spain are going back a few decades. This attitude to denounce someone via a web page, which is meant to be for consumers, is outrageous. How can one prove that you have visited the bar you have denounced?
This organisation is quite frankly weak; there are many problems facing consumers in Spain, but what do they do about it? Nothing.
If someone persists on smoking it is down to the hoteliers to phone the police. But will the police turn up? No they are busy doing?????????
It is said the last anti-smoking law in Spain was a botch job, now we have a second one!

Policing by civilians.. very fascist. Especially over a decree that one would think the government has a PLAN to enforce.

I am miffed by the reaction one gets when one denounces OTHER things here.. and now this webpage and TV publicity getting people to cooperate and denounce. Very irritating.

I hope the restauranteurs who spent all the money the government told them to can get some of it back, although just another botch up coming out of our taxes.

When will all this stop?

The posters on this forum are not the only who who thinks we are going back in time.
The Mayor of Valladolid is stating the same.

His comments is not about the law, but the way a person can denounce a bar.

I was going to post a long and irritated paragraph but I'd better keep my mouth shut.

It's still Xmas and I am trying to enjoy myself.

ribeirasacra,
<< by the way >> that's the point, is not neccessary to stress so much about denounces. Everyone knows the official complaint sheets on the premises.

Wow, talk about clutching at straws! People still thinking that there is some way to go back on this. It's against the law to spread AIDS, pee in public or grope people of either sex against their will. There are still some people to think that blowing toxic smoke into the face of strangers is acceptable? If you want to do that at home, that is fine with me. When you are in my public space, I don't want to be contaminated, peed on or receive unnecessary fumes.

It's against the law to dirty the walls with grafitti, and just look around you.

It just amazes me how folks can argue that it’s OK to involuntarily subject others to cigarette smoke while making their clothes and hair smell. The arrogance of some smokers enrages me. Some folks will certainly stand by and take it but if you blow that crap on me, I will consider it an assault and I promise you that you will eat that cigarette.

Nobody is saying it is OK.. the argument here is over a constantly switching government approach.. the government has now announced it may "tweek" the law as it sees some discrepancies...

now some of the terraces are also ILLEGAL.

Please just copy ONE place/law/ way of doing things that WORKS and get on with it.. thank you. Must we always be so UNIQUE????

to say the least, people are fed up.

let's just get it straight ONCE and stop wasting people's MONEY ( restaurant/café owners') and time with this ineptness.

I agree with Lincasanova,
The law in Spain is begin played around with, they are asking neighbours to grass on neighbours, that reeks of the old days.
Nowhere in Europe where they have had a smoking ban has the law been this poorly implemented.
I am not a smoker but this is just unacceptable.

In 2010, it WAS banned to smoke in stores, it WAS banned to smoke in tobacconists!!
What's the problem now?
I am a smoker, more than 20 cigarettes per day.
