Split is essentially Diocletian's Palace, which can easily be seen in a day. Actually, half a day was plenty of time for me, but I was on my own, and when alone I can see a lot in a short space of time.

Trogir is a delightful little town which - having stayed overnight there twice - I'd thoroughly recommend visiting, even if only for a few hours.

Any guide book to Croatia/central Europe/The Balkans will give you an idea of what to see, depending on whether you like churches, museums, or just sitting and watching boats and people.
