topping?

Sorry to be so out of the loop, but what does "topping for..." mean? Thanks!

Intrepid1 Dec 8th, 2004 12:43 PM

It means posting a response to a post such as yours and doing so brings that post back to the top of the list where more people might notice it and respond to it.

By posting a new message a poster can bring the thread to the top so it will be read. Thus, by answering your question, I am topping for EmilyV.

Gee, did I say the wrong thing?????

Intrepid, Yes, no, sometimes? V.E.G.

A topping is something like a cherry, or say nuts, or sprinkles... You put it on top of ice cream. I put it on sundaes.

"topping for" might mean I dunno. You're buying a sunday for someone else, and you're getting a topping for them, for instance.

BozoTheClown Dec 8th, 2004 05:01 PM

D-oh. That was obviously silly. What I meant of course, was you're buying a sundae for someone else, not a sunday... That's just silly, how can you buy a whole day for someone??

Lately I think it would be better if we could "bottom" some posts.

twoflower Dec 8th, 2004 10:39 PM

I think this one just bottomed right out.

fehgeddaboudit Dec 9th, 2004 12:30 AM

How often do people read the previous replies before replying the same thing? Did I read this recently somewhere here?

Topping, TTT, and replying with no information all serve the same purpose of bringing a thread to the top of the list of 50 threads that are easily viewable. For the remainder of the threads, a person must dig deeper into the history here.

Intrepid1 Dec 9th, 2004 05:54 AM

Now we are being characterized on another thread as "boring" and "sad." Of course, if you look at who posted that you'd understand...
