Topper

I was just wondering - who is Topper? does 'ttt' mean 'To The Top'? And what does that mean?

I find myself laughing out loud whenever I see Topper's posting - just wanted to know if anyone could shed some light.

p.s. I suspect I'm about to get flamed...

"topping" a post makes it more prominent since it gets it back to the top of the list (and, I suppose, makes a response more likely..do folks here have very short attention spans????) as I have just done with yours.

AllyPally Apr 30th, 2003 01:06 AM

aaaaah, I get it! So I was reading way more into it than I should have

AllyPally Apr 30th, 2003 06:39 AM

Oh, I thought this was a sailing question.

maitaitom Apr 30th, 2003 11:54 AM

"who is Topper?"

He is "host to said ghosts." Man does that date me.

NotoriousMEG Apr 30th, 2003 12:07 PM

Don't worry, I'm 22 and I think of the Topper movies when I see that word! Love those films.

Is there some kind of FAQ on Fodor's with frequently used abbreviations? There should be.

Bottom of the list:

And the "Ghostess with the mostest."

And for your Topper T.V. trvia quiz of the day. Who played Topper in the television series? For extra points: What was the name of the alcohol drinking St. Bernard? Good luck.

starspinners Apr 30th, 2003 02:36 PM

Leo J. Carroll was Topper and Neil was the dog.
I,of course, never saw the show, but my great grandmother told me all about it. ;-))

"Leo J. Carroll was Topper and Neil was the dog.

Of course. You are very fortunate your great grandmother was an avid televidion watcher to know such valuable trivia. Starspinners, you are the TV Trivia champion for today. Unfortunately, there are no prizes except for the knowledge that you have not killed too many brain cells in your life. Congratulations. :-))

maitaitom Apr 30th, 2003 02:47 PM

"televidion"

hmm. Perhaps it is I who should worry about brain cells.

starspinners May 1st, 2003 02:24 PM

Why thank you, Maitaitom
My husband tells me I have a head full of trivia... I choose to consider that a compliment. :-)

Why do I keep thinking of a dog named Cleo on Topper? What show is that from?

maitaitom May 1st, 2003 02:35 PM

"What show is that from?"

Cleo, I believe , was the bassett hound on the old Jackie Cooper show "Hennessy (sp)." I obviously wasted my childhood watching all these shows.

maitaitom May 1st, 2003 02:37 PM

Of course I wasted my childhood, I spelled basset with two t's. I knew I shouldn't have skipped spelling class.

starspinners May 1st, 2003 02:40 PM

Ummm... or was it "People's Choice" that had Cleo the Bassethound? I'm not sure.
I think maybe great grandpapa watched that whilst great grandmama was watching Topper.

wren May 1st, 2003 02:40 PM

Thank you Maitaitom...you are right! You win the prize for mindless trivia from me!!

wren May 1st, 2003 02:42 PM

Actually starspinners is the winner...did some research jackie Cooper (who my Dad met when he was in the service...Jackie was only 14) is the lead, but the show's name is People's Choice!!
