Assuming budget was no issue, what are the top five hotels in Tuscany excluding florence?

Hmmm ! You ceertainly are asking a ton of questions, which begs the question, have you been to slowtrav.com?
That is very difficult to answer since Tuscany is very large and location is the most important criterion. My favorites, considering location, would be:
Locanda Amorosa
Relais La Saracina
Adler Thermae
Castello di Velona

All are south of Siena in the best part of Tuscany. Good luck !
