top ten favorite things to do and see in Brittany!

question for today!

what were your favorite bits of your trip to Brittany? what would you do again in a heartbeat, and what might you take a miss if you did it again?

thanks!

-Walking around Pointe Du Raz.

-Staying and eating at Moulin de Rosmandec in Pont-Aven.

-Walking around the ramparts in St.Malo in sunset.

-Visiting weekly market and old town in Dinan.

-The walk along the coast to Mont-St-Michel.

-The cathedral and old town in Quimper.

-The medieval village in Locronan.

-The beautiful seaweeds on the beach of Cancale; and oysters.

-The sand dunes along Quiberon.

-The megalithes in Carnac.

-The Seafood!!!

I am afraid I can't think of anything I didn't enjoy.

Gee, Judy touched all of my choices but I will add the famed oysters of Belon, the crepes of Chez Angele, also in Belon.

We absolutely loved Vannes, and the stones of Carnac, and Quimper and St-Brieuc. Loved it all, in fact, although we did have to set our minds to the fact that we weren't "really" in France because Britanny is really another country, with another language and another cuisine and so on. It's like Maine in New England. It's beautiful but not part of the rest of the country.

JudyC has it down pretty well! Add on to that:

The Emerald Coast-specifically Ploumanach

Any one of the Parish Closes-St. Thegonnec and Guimiliau are the best representations

La Pointe St. Mathieu with its magnificent abbey ruins and striking monument to the "Lost at Sea" with celtic themes carved in it.

Concarneau and its lovely walled port city and the best kouign-amann (pastry) imaginable!

A religious "Pardon" or a "Fest-Noz" if you happen to be where one is bieng held--for the beautiful costumes and local music/dance/language.

I'd be glad to email you some photos of Concarneau and Pointe St. Mathieu if you'd like...let me know.

St Malo is fab. But my favourite experience was the meals i had at Le Cauldron in Morlaix. The madam that owned it was wonderful - the food was divine and she insisted on a plying us with free calvados after we had paid the bill.

Staying and eating at Le Richeux just outside Cancale. Walking the streets along the water in Cancale. Going for a sailboat ride in the harbor of St. Malo (a free perk for those staying at Le Richeux.

bbib: unless you were staying where more than meals are being served (wink-wink), it's best not to just use (the) "madam" alone, but followed by a proper noun. Same care needs to be taken with the word "fille". Placing an adjective i.e. jeune fille, ma fille, etc. solves the problem. JFYI so you aren't amusing the natives more than they already are with us etrangers!

The pointe du Penhir (part of the Presqu'il de Crozon is great, too, if you don't want to go to Ponte du Raz. And on the interior I would recommend Josselin and the tiny Rochefort-en-terre.

We liked Dinard for the beautiful location on the coast (not to mention the hotel restaurant with incredible moules frites) and Dinan for the medieval look and feel of the town.

Screens are pretty much non-existent in France. But then we don't have them in SF either.

I love it! just FLING those windows open. one of my favorite parts of French houses.

did you make a loop around Brittany? in which direction, and did you concentrate more on coast or inland? many of the pics are inland, from this trip anyway?

Be sure to attend a fest-noz. they were one of our favorite things.

We much preferred northern Brittany to the southern areas.

We spent a day in the middle of the area at the small relaxing village of St. Nicholas des Eaux and rented bikes for the day. It was a fun day.

The quickest way to get to my Trip Report: Ghent, Normandy and Brittany is to search for the name of one of lesser mentioned towns, such as Douardenez or Josselin. The third part of the report deals with Brittany and pretty much follows the loop, starting in Cancale and ending in Rennes and Angers.

Hi Klondike

sorry, just getting around to concentrating on the various threads - too busy to read them all very closely! I just saw that you offered to email me photos - do, by all means, thank you!
