Top restaurants in big three !
 

Hi !
My wife and hi will be in Rome, Florence (daytrip to Sienna) and Venice for 12 nights in july. since we wont be with the kids we really want to enjoy ourselve with lovely meals.

We would like to know all your recommendations in those places. We would like to enjoy local cuisine, with the best of specfic cuisine in each city. We dont have any allegies, or fodd that we really dislike, We are very open minded food wise.

We often use trip advisor but those are often a hit or miss.

• Money is not an object...well it is but not that much.
• We can also take in consideration international cuisine (thai, chinese, french and such recommendation if they are must eat.
• We equally love traditional cuisine and more contempory one.

Thanks to help us make a list of place to go (and reserve !).

In Venice, try Ai Mercanti. We love it.

Why would your expectations be any different here? Opinions on the internet are a penny a dozen.

if you want to try local cuisine you can go to San Desiderio, it's located in Siena near il Duomo and la Piazza del centro... I really enjoy the food, they have the thick spaghetti typical of the area.

It's near Cibreo a second and more upscale restaurant of Fabbio Picchi the Paul Bocuse of Florence. Both have great food but Teatro is a unique experience

Another fun and terrific food experience in Florence is Sostanza, a small, old place that seats people at communal tables (we were seated with a couple from Japan and another from Wawatosa, Wisconsin, so pretty eclectic) Worth all the hype about it.

I find Rome somehow harder to find terrific food in but among the places we've enjoyed, I'd cite , La Campania old fashioned trattoria, and Isola dei Pizza, near the Vatican where our museum guide took us for a terrific lunch of pizza and roasted meats sliced by hand before your eyes.

Venice, on the other hand is one of my favorite dining cities where I have lots of places to recommend--like Fiaschetteria Toscano beyond the Rialto Bridge, lunch at the lovely Monaco and Grand Canal hotel restaurant with views of the Dogana and the Santa Maria Salute church and the gondoliers and vaporettas going to and fro, L'Avogaria, small and tucked into the back streets on the Dorsoduro, and also in Dorsoduro modern, upscale Lineadombra on their floating deck in the evening with views of the Giudecca and at the other end of the spectrum the chichetti place called Cantinone Gia Schiavi. Near San Marco, we like the modern Osteria Enotecha San Marco which has nice atmosphere, quiet in the midst of chaos and excellent food and service. A fine place to sip a glass of champagne or prosecco is the floating bar of the Westin Europa Regina Hotel across from the Santa Maria Della Salute church. Alla Testiere gets lots of foodie recs and deserves them. OTOH Il Ridotto does not deserve its reputation IMO. But my favorite in Venice (and actually my all time favorite restaurant anywhere) is the hard to find,in the streets behind the Riva Degli Schiavoni, Corte Sconda with its endlessly exciting seafood variations and its lovely courtyard where in nice weather you can sit under a canopy of grape leaves and watch the dappled sunlight show as the waiters urge you to have just a little more of their bubbly wine.
