Top Notch Venice Hotels?
Looking for very good hotels for a short stay in Venice before a cruise. Any recommendations or comments would be appreciated. Thank you.
|
We've booked two nights in March at the Palazzo Sant'Angelo - a new 14 room boutique hotel in the Sina Hotel chain. It is on the Grand Canal and has it's own dock. You can check it out at Sinahotels.com.

A few of the top of the top are: Cipriani on Giudecca; Danieli; Gritti Palace (for me, these are the top three); Bauer Grunwald and the Palazzo Bauer; Europa and Regina; Luna Baglioni (oldest hotel in Venice!); Monaco and Grand Canal (Summit Hotel group -- owned by Benetton family). It's really a matter of personal preference and what type of decor you are looking for. Sure the Palazso Bauer is some sort of variation of a theme where Stalin meets Mussolini's EUR complex in Rome, but I doubt anyone with any sense would decline staying there! Just a thought .......

Thank you both for your comments. I will check out the names mentioned on the web and have a look.
|
The Luna Baglioni is gorgeous. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
|
Stayed at the Gritti Palace a few years back and loved it! It's location is perfect especially if you are short on time in Venice - you won't waste any getting around. Enjoy your stay!!!

check out the Splendid Suisse....We enjoyed facility & location

Rob

Just a word of warning. Many of these hotels like the Danielli are extremely expensive.
|
The posting stated "Top Notch Venice Hotels." That's why the most expensive hotels in Venice were mentioned. Didn't you get that from the thread title?
|
I have stayed at Cipriani in Venice and I can vouch for its superiority. Yes, my room was $1000 US a night, but it was extraordinary, sublime. You also have to realize that the woman sitting next to you in the lobby may be the Duchess of Albany. It is that illustrious.

xxx.

I don't think most people realize HOW expensive these hotels are. In the US, $300-400 is about the most in just about any city (excluding suites, of course). Some of these hotels charge $550-$800 for the most basic room, which in Venice can be a closet with a view of an airshaft.

CoachBoy

Coach Boy: the person still said Top Notch. He probably knows what the term means and how much they cost in Venice compared to other destinations.
|
Sorry to but in on this thread, but we I've tried this post with no response.

We are thinking of having our anniversary dinner at either Monaco Hotel or Hotel Cipriani. Any feedback or suggestions on either?

JTF -

Yes, he did say top notch. However, then in his post he said "very good hotels", not "the best".

Second, the only way he'd know how much hotels cost in Venice is to check out a guidebook. Which, my guess is, he hasn't as he doesn't mention any specifically.

CoachBoy

Did not mean to start a fight. I just wanted to make a point that we often stay at excellent (better than very good) hotels such as the Ritz, Four Seasons etc in places like Maui, San francisco, New York etc. with a cost of $300 to $400/night. A similar class hotel in Venice is two to three times that price. This is/was a factor for me and probably for most people looking for a hotel in Venice except for the lucky cost does not matter crowd.
