Too much for one day in Munich?
 

We will be arriving by car in Munich on a Friday evening in Augsut and have both Saturday and Sunday before flying out Monday morning. There is SO much to see and do. I have this tentative plan for Saturday but worry it is too much. We are staying at the Motel One Sedlinger Tor, about a 5 minute walk from the Asamkirche.

Looking for a good dinner suggestion on Friday near our hotel, and thinking of drinks at the Augustiner beer garden.

Saturday:
Asamkirche on way to breakfast
Breakfast: Cafe Frischhut - Schmalznudel
Tour Peterskirche and Old Town Hall, wander Marienplatz, New Town Hall - climb to top (11am glockenspiel show)
Lunch: Viktualienmarkt
Afternoon: Walk Maximilianstrasse to Residenz, Munich Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism
Late afternoon: Englischer Garden - Drinks at Chinese Tower, The Eisbach and Kleinhesseloher
Time to (cab?) go back to hotel to shower and change
Later Dinner & drinks at Hofbrauhaus

On Sunday we wish to see Dachau in the morning, and Schloss Nymphenberg and the National Museum in the afternoon, so I do not think there is any room to add to that day.

Is this doable? Are we missing any must-sees? Anything really not worth seeing?

Perhaps it's a lot but I have no idea how long it takes you go through a museum and chances are you are going to do just that -- walk through it and only read a few things.

I think it is doable.

Saturday would be a bit much for me, but you know your style, stamina, etc., best.

The only museum places you mention are Residenz, Dachau and Nymphenburg. That should be doable.
IMO, the exhibition about National Socialism in the city museum is more interesting than the euthanasia exhibition in the documentation center.

There really isn't much "wandering" required at the Marienplatz (you'll understand when you actually get there) and the Glockenspiel "show" is best seen from below and not from the top.

Unless you plan to visit the Residenz, Saturday looks more relaxed than packed.
The historic city center of Munich is a compact area that does not require much time to get from one end to the other (unless you take your time to roam around).

The Englischer Garten / park is more a matter of a relaxed stroll than any strenuous sightseeing. Eisbach means Ice Creek - and you need just a few minutes to look at the surfers before you move on.
Whether or not you want to walk another 15 minutes from Chinese Pagoda to Kleinhesseloher See (lake) (both equipped with restaurants/ beer gardens) is up to you. The latter is nothing that spectacular other than being a nice little lake in a nice big park.
From Chinese Pagoda you can catch a bus every 10 minutes to get to Münchner Freiheit subway stop in 5 minutes to get back to Sendlinger Tor where your hotel is located. No need for a taxi.

If you plan to visit both, Residenz and Bavarian National Museum, I'd be biased towards the latter.
You can even incorporate the National Museum into your Saturday (instead of the Residenz) itinerary if you feel like it - or leave it for Sunday.

If you do just Nymphenburg palace and park on Sunday afternoon, you can get your final beer garden fix at nearby Hirschgarten. Aside from one restaurant inside Nyphenburg park, there are usually no refreshments available inside the quite large park. So don't forget to buy some water before you start roaming around.

P.S. Don't expect too much from the Schmalznudel for breakfast. It's a somewhat unspectacular piece of (fatty) pastry and does not replace a full breakfast. It's more a snack.

This is extremely helpful - thank you for the suggestions. Maybe we will skip the documentation centre (as we do want to visit the Residenz) and think of a new place for breakfast. If we wanted a quick, delicious breakfast somewhere near the Marienplatz, any suggestions if Schmalznudel does not cut it?

Have second breakfast (10:30 or so) at Weisses Bräuhaus (Tal 7, 80331 München) and have Weißwurstfrühstück (2 Weißwurst, sweet brown mustard, a pretzel, and a Hefeweizen beer). It's a socially acceptable way to be drinking before noon.
