too many London hotels!

Another fan of South Kensington area.We have stayed there at least 25 times at The Cranley. astor house,no 16. Baileys. Kensington Post house ,And our very favorite Millenium Gloucester. We always book a club room with free wifi.breakfast buffet, all day tea coffee and sweets. hor d'Ouvrees {spelling!}and and wine . There is also a computer you can use if you left yours behind!Walk to V &A. Natural history ,Harrods and so much more excellent transport optione Lots of good restaurants. We love Orsini's across from theV and A The hotel staff could not be more helpful

Reporting back - I looked at many of the suggestions, and many were quite attractive, altho my price point was 300 dollars and my my London is pricey. I don't like to prepay either which of course would help price. I probably liked Cranley's best but now the "vacation wind" is blowing me in a completely different direction so we probably will not visit London in May. But it's always fun to look and get ideas for another time. Thanks for all the input!

I enjoy staying at the Citadines at Trafalgar Square although I wouldn't describe it as charming (it's stylish modern with a compact kitchenette).
I also like the Chesterfield in Mayfair. It's close to the Green Park station so it's convenient coming in from LHR on the Picadilly line (also has an elevator to the street). The Chesterfield can be expensive so look out for a promotion or coupon.
