We are scheduled to be visit Hvar for three nights in October. I am concerned that it will be too cold to enjoy the island for so long a time. We will be in Split for two ngihts before, and when we leave Hvar we are going to Plitvice Park for two nights, thenon to Rovinj.

Does anyone have an ideas to help us? We could leave Hvar one night earlier and stop somewhere else on the way to Plitvice. I guess we could also stop onenight before Spit, and change all three reservations.

I need to take care of this soon, as we are leaving next week, so the less chnages the better!!

How abut a night on another island like Korcula?

Or a drive over to Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina? (Your rental car will need to have the right papers to drive into Bosnia and Herzegovina but otherwise it's a fairly easy drive, assuming you've got the ferry to/from Hvar and the mainland figured out.)

Early October, I would not change a thing.
Mid-late October, I would check historic temps at wunderground.com.
Heading north, you have Sibenik, Zadar. You also have all of Istria to consider.

We found Hvar to be simply lovely. It is a great place to kick back, walk along the seaside promenade and to climb up to the castle, but if it is night life you are after, forget about it in October. We were looking forward to experiencing the really trendy nightclub, Carpe Diem, when we go there in September. We were sitting at a cafe in the harbor having a coffee on our first morning, and asked the waiter about the club. He replied that it was just next door, but the previous night had been its last night of the season, and we had missed one hell of a blast.

We still enjoyed Hvar immensely, and would go back in a heartbeat.

There is a lot to do on Hvar Island besides walk around Hvar Town. Will you have a car? If you like wine, there are some cool wineries to visit (including one right on the ocean that you have to get to through a truly insane tunnel). Stari Grad and Jelsa are both work a walk around combined with some cafe-sitting. But you need a car to do a lot of this stuff.

Are you stopping in Trogir? Part of our upcoming trip is spent in Trogir and there is some great nature spots there as well as history. Might be good for 1 night and should work out well with your itinerary.

You have countless options, all of which could be wonderful. On Hvar Island itself, I thought Stari Grad well worth visiting. Or you could add a night (or two) in Mostar, Sibenik, Zadar, one of the islands of the Kvarner Gulf, Lovran.... It really depends on what you want to see and experience.

It will still be warm, as Yorkshire points out, in early October. We swam in Dubrovnik in mid October, and it was quite warm in Hvar.

It MAY still be warm. The weather usually turns in October at some point. Could be early, could be later in October. Varies every year. When I was in Dubrovnik mid-October 2009, it was (I was told) unseasonably warm - I was wearing shorts and also went swimming. By the time I got to Korcula, my next stop, it had turned cold and rainy, which is how it was the next four days there and in Split.

Hvar is beautiful. Stay there. Visit the capital city, Vrboska, Stari Grad and Jelsa. Necessary Vrboska and Hvar City!
