toll-free calls?

i have found that toll free calls to many hotels in italy do not exist, does italy not have toll-free (1-800) numbers of some sort?

Yes many places have toll free numbers but they are toll free if calling from Italy.

Also, hotels normally do not have these numbers unless they are part of a huge American chain.

Did you say "toll free" or "troll free"?

imim

There is a toll-free network WITHIN Italy, as in every country, but are you asking if you can call Italy toll-free from the USA or another country? No. Not only don't they exist for "many hotels," they don't exist for any hotels.

Nor can you call back to the USA from Europe and use 800 numbers for toll-free calls, by the way.

Over the past few months I made calls to 800 #s in the US, and my calls were rerouted to the UK. One call was late at night to British Airways, and my call was rerouted to the British Airways Reservation Center in the UK, and the other was to the Thistle Hotels reservations line, and I spoke to a woman in London. However, both times I was dialing US 800 #s and the calls were rerouted over the pond.

Larger chain hotels might have US based 800 #s and a link to transfer the call overseas.
