Toledo Spain

Looking for suggestions for seeing the Jewish sights of Toledo next monday, Oct. 12, 2009. Will take the train from Madrid for the day. Anyone know a good guide?

There's a small but very nice Jewish museum and at least one historic synagogue in Toledo, if memory serves. A good place to start your search would be to check out a good guidebook on the city (Fodor's, Frommer's, etc.) or their online equivalents.

Here's the Toledo tourism office's website:
www.toledo-turismo.com.

All of the monuments and museums are listed, along with their hours, as well as walking tour suggestions, etc.

Your planned date for visiting Toledo (12 Oct) is a Holiday in Spain and a 'Puente' (i.e., 3-day weekend). It's liable to be crowded with people taking advantage of the Holiday.

You might say it's a double Holiday: el Día de la Hispanidad y la Virgen del Pilar.

Neds correct the 12th is a public holiday in Spain. Roads will be busier than normal and trains work to a Sunday timetable. Shops may be closed or open for limited hours. Maybe even museums on a closed/limited opening hours. Yes that may seems strange but it does happen at times.

contact the tourist office to see whether things are open...
there are two synagogues you can visit in toledo. one is a proper museum, there is nothing in the other but both are affecting and worth the effort. you don't need a guide (not a physical one), but just download some info. uk newspaper travel sections are very good on city guides or more specific pieces - try telegraph.co.uk, timesonline.co.uk, guardian.co.uk, independent.co.uk
if you plough through that lot you'll know more about toledo than 99.9% of spaniards, alive or dead!

We arrived in Granada on the 12th - it was jammed all weekend with Spaniards!
Don't know about Toledo, but it is s big holiday.
I though there would be more Jewish history in Toledo than we found.

Spaniards in Granada? How novel an idea is that ...
