Toledo or Segovia?
I will be in Madrid this month for 4 days,
I would like to do a day trip from Madrid to either Toledo or Segovia. I can only choose one place to visit due to lack of time but both places look intresting. Any suggestions? |
Jorge,
I haven't been to Segovia, but we LOVED Toledo! It was a real highlight for us when we went to Spain. We allocated 2 days to it and we could have easily spent more. Having said that, I've heard really nice things about Segovia as well. And you won't run out of things to do in Madrid in 4 days, so you may want to consider spending all your time there. Have a great trip! Sally |
Why don't you search for this question on this forum? It seemed like it was up recently. The popular answer is Toledo, but there is a strong minority vote for Segovia. Toledo is a "must", but Segovia is a "fun".

I also vote Toledo. In my opinion, the entire city is the highlight.
For Segovia, the aquaduct and alcazar (2 main attractions) were great sites, but the city itself was not as impressive. |
I think both are fascinating and worthy of a visit, but Toledo is more compact and it is quite easy to do a day trip there by regular bus. It is about an hour from Madrid. I took the train from Atocha station one stop to the bus station (I am at work so I can't remember this bus station, but some helpful person on this site will know it). Busses leave every half hour, I believe. When you get to Toledo, you can take the local bus up into the old town, a few minutes away. Just check what time the last bus leaves Toledo back to Madrid, and then enjoy your day in this great old walled city.
I found Frommer's (sorry Fodor's!) "Madrid" guidebook very helpful. It had lots of good info on Madrid as well as other nearby and/or regional sites. Both Toledo and Segovia were featured... I like Madrid, too, and agree that you could easily spend the whole time there, but one day trip would be a nice addition to your trip. |
With 4 days in Madrid, I'd do both. I like Madrid (mostly for the Prado and Sofia) but LOVE both Segovia and Toledo.

The alcazar of Segovia is the most beutifull castles in europe and it's worth a visit. (try googleing it on images. "alcazar of segovia" don't get it mixed up with the one in toledo)
Toledo has an alcazar also but it's not as impressive as the one in segovia. But both cities are fabulous and both desrve a long visit. |
