Toledo on Monday.Please help

Hi All,

Thanks to all the Fodorites in the first place for posting thier Trip reports (yk, Indiancouple and others) and discussions which have been extremely useful to me in planning my trip. My husband and I will be travelling to Spain this April. After reading about the history of Spain, we definitely want to visit Toledo.

We will be in Madrid for 2 days (Monday and Tuesday). Please suggest which of these 2 options is better?

A) Stay in Madrid on Monday and check out Palacio Real, skip Prado musuem (since it is closed on Monday) and visit Toledo on Tuesday.
B) Visit Toledo on Monday and check out Palacio Real and Prado museum in Madrid on Tuesday. I went through some of the past forum discussions (year 2001 and 2004) It appears that most of the musuems, cathedrals etc in Toledo are closed on Monday.

Thanks.

With only two days in Madrid, doing Toledo on Tuesday means that you will not have time to enjoy even some of what Madrid has to offer. If you want to see Toledo, then stay in Toledo and skip Madrid.

Toledo is a lovely ;I suspect you can see the Cathedral on Monday. The rest of the museum are o.k., but the place itself was the most memorable .
Madrid is a huge city with world class museums.
One can take a few hours to see some of the paintings in Prado, but if art is not your "thing", you may wish to take some kind of a tour of Madrid instead.

I very much enjoyed Toledo without visiting its museums. My feeling about the Prado is that it has some paintings that are extremely important to the history of Spain as well as the history of art. A good guidebook and a little advance leg work will take you right to them. If you are bored you can always leave. But it is a high point of Madrid, I think, it's single best cultural attraction.

Some locations in the city are presently closed, with no dates when they are going to reopen.

Can anyone please assist with an update about what will be open/closed in Toledo on a Monday and what is still under construction - we will visit on Monday the 3rd of September?
