Toledo (as day trip)

Many people seems to enjoy Toledo (as day trip) from Madrid.
With only 3 days in Madrid, should we make the 1/2 day trip to Toledo?
We're thinking of doing this on a Sat (I read that the train ride is only about 45 mins..?)
If so, should we go in the AM or in the late afternoon (to get the nightlife ambience)?

Pls share your experience...TIA!

I think I'd ask yourself what you want to see in Madrid and if it's worth cutting anything out of Madrid to see Toledo. I covered my personal must-sees in Madrid before I did my daytrips, and I had longer than three days, which is another consideration.

One thing to note is that El Greco's famous painting "View and Plan of Toledo" is on display through February 27, 2011 at the Prado in Madrid. It is usually on display at the El Greco Museum in Toledo.

What time of the year are you going?; a summer night in Toledo is nowhere near a November night.

Don't miss Toledo; definitely spend 1/2 day if that is all you can do. Again, depending on time of year, either go for a guided tour (saves time on ticket lines, etc...) or a more leisure. early start. As far as nightlife, it is much better in Madrid (even George Clooney remarked about the great nightlife in Madrid!).
