Today is my 44th Birthday

Today is my 44th birthday and I treated myself to a round trip ticket from Newark to Paris (one glamorous destination to another). I got a great buy, $423 on Lufthansa via Frankfurt for November 13-25. This is my 7th trip to Paris.

I also just became STAR ALLIANCE GOLD status which means I can fly coach and use the business class lounges and I will aslo get double miles for a total of about 16,500 frequent flyer miles.

Oh did I mention I added on 4 days business in London too? This is my 7th trip to London.

I am not bragging.

Judyrem Sep 7th, 2004 05:30 PM

Happy 44th Birthday! Good extra perks too. Have a great time :-D.

adrienne Sep 7th, 2004 05:34 PM

Happy Birthday Richard! Wishing you many more birthdays and many more travels.

Adrienne

Flyboy Sep 7th, 2004 05:36 PM

Congratulations and happy birthday. I've found that having airline status dramatically changes the experience and economics of travel for me. Happy Contrails!

richardab Sep 7th, 2004 05:37 PM

Well you get to use the lounge and sit in perferred seats!

Someguy Sep 7th, 2004 05:40 PM

Happy birthday :)

richardab Sep 7th, 2004 05:46 PM

I made a big pot of Coq au Vin.....

Budman Sep 7th, 2004 05:48 PM

richard, we flew Lufthansa a few times to Munich and Paris all via Frankfurt. The transfers in Frankfurt were about 1 hour and our luggage did not make it to us at our destination. Make sure you carry on a change of clothes and some toiletries. Have a nice trip. ((b))

Buon Compleanno richardad..Um loves the chicken..Should I bring some baquette and a bottle of wine?

Joe_in_Silver_Spring Sep 7th, 2004 06:22 PM

Richardab, one of my all-time favorite Fodor post is your description of your trip to Italy in 2000(?). I've since eaten at one of the restaurants that you recommended in Rome. Happy birthday, Joe

Happy birthday, Richard. I hope this year is a terrific one for you. Certainly sounds like it's going to be!

rex Sep 7th, 2004 06:30 PM

I'll trade you your birthday for mine (this Saturday); one short of a "full deck".

Best wishes,

Rex

Surfergirl Sep 7th, 2004 06:35 PM

Happy Birthday. Good choice for a gift to yourself. Have a great time!

richardab Sep 7th, 2004 07:26 PM

P.S. to Budman.... I almost always fly Lufthansa to Europe with connections and never have a problem. I usually try to get flights that have over 1 hr for connections. I find Lufthansa to be the most reliable airline i have ever flown. OK, the flight attendants do kiss your butt, but nor do they on United!

Calamari Sep 7th, 2004 07:29 PM

BUON COMPLIANNO! Your birthday was just two days after mine, but I am younger!!! BUT YOU GET TO GO TO PARIS! Have a fantastic trip and don't forget to post when you get back.

sundown Sep 7th, 2004 07:53 PM

Happy birthday! It is my birthday, too. I'm a bit younger but didn't get anything as fun as you!

Beatchick Sep 7th, 2004 09:17 PM

Oh! So that explains why you're such an exemplary list-maker!!

From one Virgo to another:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

richardab Sep 8th, 2004 04:45 AM

Virgos are a mess, aren't we?

ira Sep 8th, 2004 04:48 AM

Happy b'day richard.

Enjoy your trip to Paris.

Beatchick Sep 8th, 2004 05:59 AM

Yes, we are! An organized mess!! :)

Hope you have a great time in Paris, Richard!!

Giovanna Sep 8th, 2004 08:54 AM

Hi Richard: Sorry I'm a day late, but here are my very best belated birthday wishes! ((G))

Hope you enjoyed your birthday dinner and your trip sounds wonderful. Enjoy it to the fullest! ((R))

Carmen Sep 8th, 2004 09:00 AM

Wow...MY birthday was yesterday too!! (42) September 7 was also the birthday of Queen Elizabeth I (or so my daughter tells me) and Buddy Holly. Lots of Virgo Fodorites. :) Going to Paris is a great way to celebrate, but I guess I'll have to wait for #44. I did get some noise-cancelling headphones as a great gift, which I'll get to try next week when we go to Hawaii for our anniversary. Happy (perhaps) belated birthday to all of you!

sfowler Sep 8th, 2004 09:44 AM

Happy Birthday indeed!

As one MARRIED to a Virgo -- do you know how to keep them from making lists for YOU??

ThinGorjus Sep 8th, 2004 11:02 AM

If it was my 44th birthday, I would be heading to the plastic surgeon, not Paris. Only 10 more years to my eyelid surgery and tummy tuck. :)

martinewezel Sep 8th, 2004 11:55 AM

Depends on how you lived so far, ThinGorjus. Don?t think all people of 44 need patch ups.
Happy birthday Richardab!

Another Virgo :-)

gingerman Sep 8th, 2004 12:28 PM

...and the days dwindle down
to a precious few...
September Song

Beatchick Sep 8th, 2004 03:54 PM

LOL, Sally!! :)

You just very gently grab him by the shoulders, tell him you love him, and VERY FIRMLY SAY:

No Thank You!!

It is only our desire to help that leads us to do these things!! :D

JanePost Sep 8th, 2004 04:38 PM

Happy Birthday! Live your life to the fullest; make every day counts.

WanderingTexan Sep 8th, 2004 04:41 PM

Happy Birthday! I am a Virgo too! Heading to London next week.

richardab Sep 9th, 2004 01:38 AM

richardab Sep 9th, 2004 12:30 PM

My balloons have deflated.

Countrymouse Sep 9th, 2004 01:42 PM

I hope you had a great day Richard. You dont look a day over 43!
Sad about your balloons, but there is so much 'hot air' here on fodors theyll soon perk up again!
Happy birhtday too to all Fodors birthday guys and gals. I myself am a Sagitarian (but they cant touch me for it!). I wonder how many of us are actually like our star signs are supposed to be. Are arians stubborn, taureans bull headed etc? What do you think?

Grasshopper Sep 9th, 2004 01:50 PM

Happy birthday. Isn't elite status great? From the west coast every oversees trip nets a free domestic trip.

Have fun!!!
