Kathie:

one other note: (for those of us without unlimited funds) I see that many of the cards that are now beginning to offer no foreign exchange fees as a feature have an annual credit card fee of $85/$95 (yes, first year waived). Capitalone does not have an annual fee. (and BTW, no, I don't work for them )

I looked up UNFCU. It's the United Nations Federal Credit Union and membership is restricted to those connected with the UN.

So does this mean there's no chip and pin first card generally available in the US?

I am not clear at all on what this means. "

Oops! Christina, I meant to ask jamikins if she opened a checking account, not a prepaid card. Used the wrong term, sorry for the confusion.

P.S. Re: Capital One credit cards: I switched to the new Spark credit card, no foreign trans fees and 1.5% earnings on everything. That works out better than the 1/2/3% tiered cards that give you different points depending on what/where you purchase. Also, they have a bonus $$ signup right now for new customers.

Hmm, "I did not know that," even though I have a different Capital one credit card. Thanks for the extra tip. Spark is a business card, right?

Yes, zola, it's a commercial card. You're welcome - glad I could help somebody else, as so many have helped me here!
