To Splurge or Not to Splurge - St Regis Grand vs. Crowne Plaza Minerva

That is the question - any takers? Is the St. Regis Grand worth the extra $100 per night over the Crowne Plaza Minerva? Yes, I like luxury while on vacation, but I'm not going to lose my head over it...
The Grand is grand. Location is a bit odd and not overly convenient, though.

The Crowne Plaza is an excellent 4-star and the location is likewise quite good.

We enjoyed the Grand greatly, on a business trip. For personal travel I'd frankly prefer the CP at close to the same price, let alone a spread of $100.

Rome.Switzerland.Bavaria
www.twenj.com
Are you a Starwood Preferred Guest? I've been thinking about using a half off (for duration up to 5 nights) reward to stay at the St. Regis. At about $320/nt it's an even better deal.

It depends on what you are looking for. I always stay at Le Grand...it is a bit farther from Piazza di Spagna and the center of things in Rome, but it is not that far of a walk; it just means you have to take a cab back to the hotel at night.

On the other hand, be aware that some of the standard rooms at the Grand are smaller. The Suites are huge and have great views onto the Piazza Reppublica. However, sometimes the extra room attached to the suite (that is normally sold as a normal room) has been a bit small.

Although they are both excellent hotels the CP would get my vote because of the location.

In most people's books the CP would be classified as a luxury hotel so I don't believe you'll miss out on anything on that front and being situated around the corner from the Pantheon and a short walk from Piazza Novona is so convenient.

I'd love to know how you get on.
Have a great holiday

Thank you. I think that due to the location, I will opt for the Crowne Plaza.
