to rent a car or peugeot buy back program?
 

We will be in Provence for 3 weeks this summer and I already rented a car through Auto Europe (just today). I then decided to look at the buy back program and it is almost $1000 cheaper! We will be 3 adults and 2 kids. The largest Peugeots they offered in automatic are the 307 pack wagon or 407. Will one of these be roomy enough for us and luggage? The car I rented is a Merceded c200. It looks like I am able to cancel the rental reservation but I'm not positive.
Any opinions as to which is better? Thanks!

The lease program is great. Do they have a 407 wagon option--that would work. We had a 406 and loved it.

they only have the 307sw pack wagon available for pick up in Avignon. Also if we went with a 407 sedan what differece does a diesel make? They offer 3 different 407 models in automatic. Very confusing when you don't know much about cars!

Diesel will save you money on fuel, though not as much as it used to.

I'd definitely consider the buyback if the model is large enough for you- nothing screams "break into me now!" louder than a high-end rental car in Provence. And with the buyback you get a brand new car.

We love the lease programme and will be using it for the fifth time this year. The 406 or 407 would certainly be large enough for you. We are getting the 307 diesel as it is just the two of us. Diesel is fantastic and so economical - even with the larger 406/7.

I actually went to the Peugeot website to figure out the different models as the Auto Europe website doesn't have great photos of the cars. They offer a 407 SW which A.E. doesn't tell you is a station wagon, they list it as mid-size. So I think I will go with that, and it's diesel too!

Dear keb0503: I too am planning three weeks in France in May. I have checked rental price with autoeurope for a mid-size and the cost was under $1,000. I know you have been pricing larger vehicles, but is there truly a $1,000+ difference. When I asked about buy-back I was told it would be at least $200 more than the rental price.

Maybe I should check again? Can you please give me more info on this. Thank you.

Sorry imwaiting, saw your post after my last one. Yes there is almost $1000 difference but I did book a full size mercedes. I originally was going to book the mid size Renault Laguna but thought it might not be large enough for 5 plus luggage. So I reserved the Mercedes before looking into the buy back program. Now I'm convinced the buy back is the better deal. We're not fussy about the car make as long as there is enough room.

We've done the Peugeot lease plan several times with great success. (Through AutoFrance).
Regarding the diesel, yes, you'll get better mileage and cheaper fuel, a double savings, but on some models the cost of the diesel is so much more, that you'd have to drive a WHOLE lot to break even on the extra cost. We've always done diesels though as we do long leases and a lot of driving.
What web site are you looking at for models? The AutoFrance one shows very complete information if you click on the various models -- even to picturing luggage in the trunk and listing the suitcases that will fit.

I was looking at Auto Europe for the buy back program, then I went to Peugeot's own website to see the specific cars that Auto Europe offers. I didn't know about Auto France but will check them out too.
