I'm a single woman without kids, I usually travel with my fiance. It can be tough being seated next to a baby who justifiable screams at being cooped up during a prolonged flight (there are times when I'd like to). I know people can't always put off traveling until the kids are older, but I personally believe it's probably better for the kids and parents if they can.

As for older kids, I don't have a problem with them being in the aisle. Instead of looking at kids on flights as being the pains that ruin your flight, why not take a real look at them as young people and enjoy how they see the world. Granted, it ain't too cool when parents let the kids kick your seat. Still, there are plenty of times I've smiled and laugh watching little kids play around me.
