To Chantilly from CDG
 

Is there a train to get to Chantilly from CDG without first going to Paris? If so, please give me very detailed info as I am unfamiliar with CDG - have not been there for awhile. Any other transportation other than a taxi? Also, about how much would a taxi cost? Thanks in advance.

There are two options by train (RER D to RER B and SNCF to RER B), but both involve Paris.

Thanks for the info Nuke. Any one have an idea of how much to pay for a taxi? I really don't want to go into Paris and then on to Chantilly as I think it is only about 15 or so miles from CDG.

I tried to find a shuttle to Chantilly but it required heading to Paris first.

From CDG on the shuttle elsewhere, about the same about of distance, was the charge for at least 55€.

Maybe it's best to just rent a small car and drive over there. Then you could visit some of the areas too.

You want the Picardie-Roissy bus from the Gare Routiere at CDG (www.metro-pole.net/hor/fiche/1400.03.l.html). Get off at Senlis (25 mins from CDG) then get a no 15 local bus to Chantilly.

The thought there might be a direct bus from an airport to a tourist city nearby is too much for the French to cope with. It's unFrench to travel by public transport: but highly French to pour taxpayers' money into expensive train systems no-one bothers using. A bus service is too simple for minds damaged by excessive Descartes at an early age.

Wow, that really was ridiculous, flanner. I don't know a single French person who doesn't prefer public transportation when it is economical and convenient.

As for the TGV system, the only reason that it exists is because France is the only country in the world willing to go into debt for 70 years to build a good train system. Other countries demand a profit after only 10 years or they're not interested.

So why do fewer people use all those expensive French than the crappy English ones everyone whines about?

Why do the French drive twice as many miles per head of the population as the British - thus totally undoing the environmental benefit of all those nuclear-powered trains?

And why isn't there a bus from CDG to Chantilly?

could it be that everyone from Chantilly would probably take an airport transfer - taxis offer special rates even from far away - why would there be a bus between those two points? Or it's so close someone will take them and pick them up

even more Brits would ride the train if they could get on them and get a seat at rush hour - the infamous West Coast line rebuilding i've heard called the single more expensive rail project ever in Europe - maybe until the TGV-Est but when it was all done it was still a piece of crap

The English may ride trains but they don't do operating rail lines very well.

Plus since the Brits are probably poorer than the French they must stick to rails than drive

Why can't you go from Stratford-on-Avon to anywhere in the Cotswolds practically by bus?

I've read that the majority of folks living inside Paris itself do not have vehicles

I guess you're not couting the Metro as being a train. Most Parisians ride the Metro.

Flanner also seems not to know that the British population is poorer than the French population, so fewer of them can afford cars.

It is a shame that some of the British have to ride crappy trains instead of driving. It is a shame that some of the French drive when they should be riding the excellent trains.

And in spite of largely free super highways in England and that French autoroutes seem to have, to me, exorbitant tolls that makes it all the more odd that French can afford to drive more

Yes, that was indeed the most interesting trivia fact that came out after all of the media coverage of the French car burnings -- the fact that the British burn twice as many cars without even having riots.
