To and From the amsterdam airport
I have done my research and i found the airport website but it didnt answer some of my questions, so here goes:
Is it easy to get from the amsterdam airport to central station by train? How much would this cost? How long would it take if i land at 830am? |
It's very easy. You can hop a train right at the airport (follow the signs) and is relatively inexpensive. The train takes about 40 minutes so you should be able to get to Centraal station around 10:30am.
|
The station is right in the airport, it takes around 20 min., the price is (I think) €5 or €6 round trip. There are trains every few minutes.

You will find the answers at www.ns.nl
Yes, it's easy. The journey from Schiphol to Amsterdam Centraal takes about 20 minutes. Trains run every few minutes. Cost is 3.40 full fare single journey. You must now buy a ticket at a vending machine, you can no longer buy it on the train. See website. WK |
You can also buy the ticket at a ticket window. The train station is in the Arrivals hall, come out of customs and start 'veering' to your left past the shops.
After you buy your ticket, there are escalators going down to the various tracks - signs over the top of the escalator tell you which are going to "Centraal". |
Lostmymind,
I based the 40 minutes on the time it will take you to buy a ticket and wait for a train. If you don't have to wait for luggage you could get to Amsterdam much quicker. Another thing - I would grab a taxi outside Centraal station instead of trying to figure out the public transportation - at least when you first arrive. |
Thanks I wrote all this down in my travel journal.

Do NOT leave ANY luggage unattended near the doors on the trains from the airport into the city, especially when the train makes the interim stops at stations such as Sloterdijk.

Another option and in-between method is the "Connexxion" hotel shuttle bus.
It leaves from the front of the airport and loops thru all the major hotels (they ask as you board which hotel and only stop at those). It is 10 euro one-way (18 round trip) and incredibly easy. If you aren't staying at a major hotel you can just pick the one closest to wherever you are staying and get off there. For me this worked great and was much less stressful than taking public transportation in a city I had never been to, don't speak the language, and just got off an overnight transatlantic flight, and then you still need to walk, catch a tram, or take a taxi to arrive at your hotel/hostel. |
Hi Lost
Like Suze, I took the Connexxion shuttle and found it very convenient. This was in May of this year, and it cost 11 € one way. It was fast and quite easy. mom |
oops... thanks for the price update aggiemom, my trip was a couple summers ago.
