Tivoli by train?
 

I've noticed that most of the guidebooks recommend getting to Tivoli from Rome by bus from the Rebibbia metro stop. But there are frequent trains from Termini, and they only take about 40 minutes, according to the on-line schedule. Is there some advantage to taking the bus that I'm missing? Thanks to all who respond.

I've heard that Tivoli has been allowed to seriously deteriorate and folks aren't enjoying their visits. No first hand knowledge. Does anyone know?

Thanks - I found Walter's excellent instructions. Any thoughts on Kam's question? I assume the deterioration would be with regard to the Villa d'Este rather than Hadrian's Villa.

I believe the bus is best because Villa Adriana is some way out of Tivoli itself and even after you alight the bus (heading to Tivoli rather than away from), it's about a mile down the road to the villa. There was an old man who shouted "Villa Adriana" just before the bus stopped so we knew when to alight. Maybe they don't do this from the other direction (buses out of Tivoli town). <BR> <BR>I don't know about any deterioration of either Villa Adriana or Villa d'Este, apart from the usual ravages of time - I was last there in 1996. However, there didn't appear to be any restoration of either site going on back then. Villa Adriana could have done with better signposting on the ruins, as it was difficult to tell what some buildings were, so an injection of funds is probably sorely needed.

I was in Rome in April and took a bus ride to Trivoli and Trivoli was closed. I would suggest calling first to make sure it is open. <BR>Then drove to Hadrian's Villa (glad to have a ride over) because there is alot of walking around the ruins in the Villa. I would suggest allowing more time at Hadrian's Villa, as I thought it was the "highlight" of my Rome trip.
