Tirol Austria

My guidebook says that I don't need an International Drivers License or the special car sticker in the Tirol area of Austria - just going to Pinswang, Reutte, and Ehrenberg Castle area. Has anyone found this to be different? We will have a rental car.

We where in Innsbruck last OCT. and rented a car from Avis. They did ask for a International license along with my U.S. license.I don't know about a car sticker. We drove thru Germany and had no problems.Only thing was since we rented a car that was registered in Austria we could not drop it off at the Munich airport.

If you drive on the Autobahn in Austria, you will need a Vignette for your rental car so if you don't want to buy the sticker, stay off the Autobahn.

If you rent a car in Austria, you will need an Intl Driver's Permit. It's only $10 plus the cost of your photos at AAA.

I am renting the car in Munich and spending the majority of time in Bavaria, with overnight stays is Pinswang... no major travel in Austria during this trip.

Any travel in Austria on the Autobahn requires a Vignette. If you will only be traveling on the secondary roads, you'll be OK.
