Tirano to Milano Travel by Train

To all expert people,

I bought a train ticket on http://www.trenitalia.com from Tirano to Venice. I got search result of two train. One Regional train from Tirano to Milano and another Milano to Mestre. Before buying I gone through the Ticket Delivery options and understood that the only option that I have to collect the ticket is Self Service Machine. Since I got a message on the internet that there is no self Service machine at Tirano, I changed my option and tried booking only from Tirano to Milano however to my surprise, i got a message saying "we are sorry chosen solution is not purchasable". I again went to the delivery option and came across that for regional ticket you will get ticket in the PDF file in email. I understood that I have to book the entire journey as one leg of journey can not be purchased, I gone ahead and booked my ticket by assuming that for regional train, i'll get PDF File in email and in Milano I can validate my train ticket from any self service machine as I have 25 mnts journey break . While I waited 6 hours to receive my PDF file for Tirano to Milano, travel, I didnot receive it, eventally I called up trenitalia call centre and the lady who answered my call said, book these ticket separately and you can refund this ticket. The other option is to have some one collect ticket on my behalf from Tirano station which is open from 5.40 AM to 12.00PM. I am reaching Tirano at 13.18 hours by Bernina Express and can't see this can be done. I am just checking if some one can help me with any alternate option as I don't want to loose my 20% of the ticket price. Please also suggest if buying ticket from https://www.sbb.ch/ is a good option as this swiss site gives very clearcut information about ticket, price and delivery

Thanks
Nish

Tirano-Milano is 9.85 Euro, so losing 20% of it is not a huge loss.

There is little point in buying tickets ahead of time online; it's a Regionale train, and there are no reserved seats.

There are two travel agencies in Tirano, one of them on Piazza Stazione, that sell Trenitalia tickets. The bar/buffet Tasca *in* the train station also sells tickets, and it is always open.

The problem is you are trying to book an R ticket (the only trains between Tirano and Milan are R trains)too far in advance (can only book these online within 7 days). There is no need to book this portion of the ticket in advance as there are no discounts and no reserved seating on R trains. The ticket cost for Tirano/Milan is 9.85€.

Are you sure the R ticket was booked? Check your credit card and see if that portion was processed. Did you get an e-mail code for your ticket from Milan to Venice?

Here are the directions about buying R tickets online.

And a little more info about regional tickets online.

It might help to read this thread also.

i 'm going to go Tirano to Milan on 9 May

I've read "There is no need to book this portion of the ticket in advance as there are no discounts and no reserved seating on R trains. The ticket cost for Tirano/Milan is 9.85€. "

Do you mean that i don't have to book the ticket, but i should buy it when i arrive to Tirano

That's exactly what it means.

Although since this thread is a year old the price may be a bit higher.

How are you getting from Tirano to Milan in 2 hours. The shortest trip I found is 4 hours (via Lugano).

Could you possibly mean Torino? There's a 14:59 train getting to Milan Porta Susa at 16:43.

I just did the Bernina Express last Friday. I bought my ticket right next door to the Italian train station at a snack bar called Buffet. The ticket office closes at 1:10 PM.

Are you going to stay in Milan for only a couple of hours?

>>>Do you know when will be the last train to come back to Tirano on the same date?<<<

The last train back leaves at 7:20pm. Why do you want to go all the way to Milan for two hours? That doesn't give you time to do anything.

Thank you so much for the prompt reply. so helpful. you are right, seems that if i go for a couple of hour seems there is not worth. acutally i didn't plan for it, i only want to travel switzerland only, but i did know Tirano is so near to Milan, want to take a look.
I've booked the hotel in Tirano on that night, do you think i should book in Milan?
by the way, this is the first time i go to Europe. anythink i have to take note? should i have some Euro instead only swiss franc?

Also, I want to stay just a short time, since my friend in switzerland said it's quite dangerous in Milan. Do you agree?
