Tips on Rome
 

My wife and I are planing a trip to Rome and Florence this Christmas. Shopping is on our "to do list" in Italy. Anybody knows a good shopping district in Rome? And we would appreciate any tips on accomodation. Thanks

Peter- I don't know what kind of shopping you want-but in Rome the heavy duty shopping area for clothing etc is the Via Condotti near the base of the Spanish Steps--Florence is in different sections--email me for specifics on what type of shopping you are looking for-

If you want design clothing, the Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps area), if you want Antiques, Via Margutta, and the area between Piazza Navona and campo dei Fiori, if you want to shop for less expensive clothing, Via del Corso, Via del Tritone, Via Cola di Renzo and Viale de Trastevere ( if I'm not wrong), on the left margin of the Tevere. Also the area around Piazza della Republica isn't expensive. The more you get close to the Spanish Steps, the more expensive the stores tend to be. <BR> <BR>Please, be more specific about the type of accomodation you want in Rome. Where in Rome? Budget? The area around the Vatican is pretty deserted at night so I wouldn't stay there, plus you'll be kind of far from everything else. <BR> <BR>I've stayed at the Quirinale if you want info on that one. I found the location great.

Our family (mom, dad, two young teens) just returned form Italy 10.21. We started the trip in Rome. We stayed at the Inter-Continental next to the Hassler at the top of the Spanish steps. It was a small, quiet hotel. I have read several reviews pertaining to this hotel - all are different. No one agrees. But, I can say that the service was wonderful! We depended on the concierge staff for everything (this being our first stop in italy - ever!). They were accomodating, friendly, and helpful. The wait staff was wonderful, the rooms were clean and neat. We had our rooms upgraded without request , and were given a lovely view of the courtyard (VERY quiet). The hotel is listed as a 4 star establishment, but I can tell you we stayed in another hotel in Lake Como listed at 5 stars, and the Inter-Continental put them to shame. <BR> <BR>Have a wonderful time!
