Agreed and areas airbnbs are likely to be in are probably more real neighborhoods than central Paris - with lots of cafes, boulangeries, stores, etc. Kind of like moving into the neighborhood.

Thanks for your response StCirq, not sure why the urge on your post to be critical. I am just trying to ask simple questions rather than assuming anything. I know america is not the greatest thing in the world and truly look forward to seeing what other places have to offer. Responses like DUH are what I expect from someone here in the US.

If you have a choice of neighborhoods with airbnb come back with the various ones and get advice on which are nicest. Folks who live in Paris often contribute here.

NOT for Paris. The vast majority of listings are illegal. ONLY consider the few that have the 13 digit registration # . Otherwise avoid them. (same applies to any rental listing site, not just airbnb)

Paris is airbnb's largest market - not sure the individual faces any problems staying at them but yes technically illegal and do as janis says and check for that registration number and check to see if it is hoyle.
