Tips for Driving to Mon St Michel

Hi,

We'll be traveling from our hotel in Bayeux to Mon St Michel in a couple of weeks. Any tips regarding the drive and parking would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

No tips necessary. It's a straightforward drive on good roads that are well signposted.

As for parking, pay attention to the flood times posted. Apparantly, some people do not.

I hope that you are staying on the Mont? Enjoy the magic!

Like Padraig said no tips necessary. Driving in France is so easy and beautiful (this includes driving out of Paris). The roads are well maintained, marked and very clean (no potholes). The French drivers also have great lane discipline, slower traffic ALWAYS moving to the right. We drove about 2,000 miles around Brittany and Normandy and loved every minute of it. I live in one of the most beautiful place in the world but since I got from France last May, I haven't been the same. I wish I was still driving around France with my wonderful husband!

Put on Johnny Cash, Sade, Derek and the Dominos, and Elvis and you are good to go and throw in a little Motown and you are good to go!

A few detours yield stunning views of the Mont from afar.

In Avranches, from the Bishop's Garden or some such high point you can see across the sands of the bay and see Mont St Michel gloriously hovering mirage-like from miles away

And approaching the Mont, head for the paved side roads right along the bay and again you can see the Mont, this time much closer, mesmerizingly rising out of the sands.

Don't miss the view of M ST. M at night it's spectacular. It's an easy drive just like our interstates.

And also at night in summer The Marvels of Mont Saint-Michel, a kind of Sound-and-Light Show is set up in the ancient abbey itself - it's a self-directed walking tour thru the rooms with evocative music and displays all wonderfully illuminated. Rather mysterious and quite different from the packed tours that go thru the same rooms in the day.

Not sure if it's on this year but was when i was there a few years back.
