Tips for a four day weekend in November with young children
 

Hi all, we'll be going to Rome the last weekend of November with children 7, 5 and 9 months old. Will be my first time, so would appreciate whatever help you could provide.

1. Which of the major sites would be both interesting to our 7 & 5 year olds as well as stroller friendly?

2. With this in mind (and bonus if any parks/playgrounds nearby), where would be a good central location for an apartment? We'd love to be able to walk as much as possible

Are you talking about 10 days from now? I think you may find it very difficult to find an apartment on such short notice. I would make looking for lodging a priority for NOW - as in tonight. Then you can worry about what to see. As for a stroller - some streets are OK but many have cobblestones - so be sure the stroller has heavy duty wheels - and is light enough that you can carry it when the streets are too uneven.

Are you already in Europe? I cannot imagine flying from the US to Rome and back for a 4-day trip with 3 young children, so I am going to assume that you will already be there and the kids will be adjusted to the time difference.

Rome has LOTS of cobblestones, so plan to bring a sturdy stroller. I'd also recommend bringing a baby carrier like a Baby Bjorn or the Beco Butterfly II. We took our 7 month old to Greece last May and used our Beco carrier a lot more than our stroller. Our son would nap in it quite well and it was much easier to carry him in the carrier in crowds and over rough terrain as opposed to strolling him in those situations.
