Tipping Private Tour Guides

We have several private tours arranged with individuals when in Paris-Rome-Florence. I feel certain that the tours will be wonderful, so I am wondering what the protocol should be for tipping. I am paying these folks directly at the end of the tour. Thanks for advice. Bonniejean

Hi B,

If it is a private tour (just you and your companions) the guide has charged you an appropriate price for services rendered.

For service above and beyond the call of duty, about 5% extra.

You simply put the tip in the envelop containing the guide's fee and give it to him/her at the end of the tour.

Have a nice visit.

I don't expect tips on the tours I give, but some people tip anyway. Large groups typically don't, which is fine with me (I already charge what I consider to be a fair fee for the service, so it would be illogical for me to expect something extra).
