tipping limo driver in Rome?
I have picked up the fact (from this and other travel sites ) that tipping in Italy is not the usual 15-20% we Americans are used to (as far as restaurants go)
Last year we had a limo service pick us up at Fiumicino delivering us to our apartment near Campo d. Fiori. My husband tipped the driver 10 euros for the 45 euro fee. We are going to Rome again this December, using the same limo service and I was wondering what is the customary tip most travelers give to a driver? Thanks for the help. |
Hi Carol,
We're also from the US and have been tipping 10% for taxis and limos, based on advice from our friends. We would have given 50 euro for the 45 euro fee. Will be interested to hear what others suggest. SusanEva |
I gave 50E for a 45E limo fare. Ten percent seemed acceptable in Rome and this is the rate I used for taxis as well as the limo service to/from the airport.
If you have an excessive amount of luggage or the driver goes out of his way (carrying bags up lots of steps, for instance) you could certainly give more but for standard service, getting a normal number of bags to the car and then to the apartment door, a 5E tip is fine. |
I agree.

Does the 10% apply to restaurants?

NO--restaurants have a service fee built in. A tip is not expected, but it is customary to leave your change or perhaps an extra euro above that.
