We tipped when service was excellent and we didn't tip as much as we are "used" to in the States. It ended up being around 10-15 percent

For meal service in Italy, no tipping is nessasary.

Round up.

If your Il conto is 73 euros, leave 75.

Italian waiters are happy with that.
