As a matter of fact, Janis, I tip very well in the US when the service warrants it. I, too, worked as a waitress in high school and college, so I'm sympathetic. <BR>I also worked as a waitress in Birmingham, England. It was a nice restaurant, but certainly not the stuff of Michelin star stuff. Typically, a table would leave anywhere from 3-7 pounds for service. That money was collected by the manager and distributed amongst ALL of the staff--wait staff, cooks, dishwashers, etc. So if you were lucky, you might end up with an additional 10 pounds on the night.<BR><BR>I usually don't tip taxi drivers in the UK, but I did the last time I was there, in January, and both drivers gave me really funny looks when I did this. Guess I'll go back to my old ways.
