Flight our of malpensa airport

My husband and I will be traveling through the lakes regions of Italy. We will fly out of Milan Malpensa airport back to the USA. I am interested in staying in a town near Milan and the airport.

We spent a night in Bergamo, in the Citta Alta ,which is the old section, before we flew out of Milan; we found it delightful. We were, however, leaving from the other Milan airport, so I'm not sure how close Bergamo is to Malpensa.

Stresa is near Malpensa airport 8833. And several Fodorites have mentioned there is bus service from Stresa to Malpensa (I have always had a car so have never used the bus service). Or maybe you will have a rental car?

Another small city near Malpensa is Gallarate. A lot of business people stay there when using the Malpensa Airport. A taxi will take about 15 minutes to get to Malpensa. Just a couple of thoughts.

Since you are "traveling through the lakes regions", I suggest that you consider Orta San Giulio as your last stop. Besides being one of the most scenic of the lakeside towns, it's no more than an hour by car from Malpensa.

Hello 8833, having a car certainly gives you much more flexibility regarding your last night in Italy.
Not sure what time you have to be at Malpensa to check in but if you will be driving during the commute period do allow yourself extra time.

And let us know what you decide!!
BTW, the other airport is Linate, just east of Milan.

Have fun planning your trip, the Lakes are so beautiful!!
