Timing of Dordogne trip

I've been reading lots of posts about the Dordogne area of France with the intention of traveling there spring 2013. We would probably spend a week to 10 days there, and another week in Paris.

With a trip window from mid-May to mid June, are there reasons to choose early or late in that window?

June is when the tourists start pouring in (not nearly as many as throng there in July, but still a lot). May is when the orchards tend to be in bloom - gorgeous, as there are so many of them. I'd go mid- to end of May.

We were there in early-to-mid-June, and it was surprisingly hot. Although I'm pretty sure that was an atypical season.

If I were to do it again, I'd probably do as StC suggests and make it May.

If you want to check real temperatures here in the Dordogne, have a look at Weather Underground, which will tell you the actual temperatures for the period you choose. Just enter the time period.

that said, it can be hot in March, as it was this year, and then cool for several months - or the reverse. But better to avoid the late June period, which is when it does get busier.
