Cathinjoetown,

I believe Stu is now in France (I may be mistaken). If you get no response, send me your e-mail and I'll pass it on...

hey folks,

i was just looking at my michelin map and notice that nimes is also quite close to pont du gard. in my revised itinerary, i have combined pont du gard with uzes for a day trip. should i consider nimes instead of uzes?

thanks!!

Nimes is a fairly large town and traffic can be an issue. It can be quite confusing getting in and out of town and the sites will take at least a half a day. I know that you mentioned that you wouldn't be going to Arles and I'm not sure if you kept Orange in your itinerary or not. If not, you may want to consider it.

It could certainly be done but you would have to give up Uzes in favour of Nimes. My husbands favorite town was Uzes. It was on the top of my list but I still prefer St Remy over Uzes but it gets very high recommendations on this board. I think it will be down to personal choice. Nimes is about seeing the sights and Uzes is about soaking up the atmosphere of the town.

hi crazyfortravel,

we've kept orange in the itinerary - it's close to where we are staying and it's part of our dentelles day.

i was thinking about hitting st. remy for dinner on the way back from les baux. i think that will be very do-able.

i guess we could always do nimes if we're 'done' quickly in uzes after pont du gard. we'll see.

thanks!!

St Remy is a really cute town. You could explore inside the ring road on a stroll before dinner. We had a nice meal at Jardin de Frederic on the ring road at 8 Blvd Gambetta...the apple tarte desert was the best I've ever tasted. I had the chocolate pistashio mouse which was wonderful as well but the tarte was out of this world (my husband was nice enough to share a few bites). I can't say the service was stellar but the meal was one of the best on our trip.

I think that would be a good plan to do the Pont du Gard and Uzes first and if you have time head to Nimes...especially since you'll be doing Orange on another day.

If the weather is good, the Pont du Gard makes a wonderful place for a picnic. Uzes has many lovely shops that sell sandwiches, pizza and tasty pasteries.

hi crazyfortravel,

thanks for the info re: st. remy!

i think our plan is to do pont du gard first thing in the morning (avoid the throngs of tourists) and then hit uzes before lunch, find a nice cafe for lunch and go from there. we may or may not head to nimes from uzes.
