Timeshares in Italy & Germany

Hi,

Does anyone have any recent timeshares they have gone to in Italy and Germany. We belong to both II and RCI and are looking to go to both Italy and Germany in 2007. I would love to have the names of some good timeshares to stay in. We are also looking for overnight stays in Zurick, and midway between northern Italy and Rome.

Would appreciate any info anyone could provide.

Thanks.

In my experience with RCI, unless you have unlimited flexibility with respect to time, you need to pick your dates and see what is available, and choose from that. For some popular dates, there may be nothing in the areas you want. On the other hand we did luck into a nice place in the Dolomites for July a couple of years ago.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. We will be traveling off season, I was wondering if anyone had ever stayed in any of the timeshares in Germany or Northern Italy to give me info on their experiences, and what not to miss in the areas.
I have so far traveled to Spain, Ireland, Hawaii, Austria, Southern Italy, Mexico and all over the U.S. using our timeshare and Marriott or Hilton points. We have so far been very pleased with our experiences

I just want to say that you shouldn't count on getting any timeshare in Italy. I tried for over three years running, with completely flexible dates and over two years notice, and never was able to get one exchange with RCI. The timeshares there are often small places, sometimes with only a few units that are actually used for timeshare exchanges, so it's extremely difficult to get into any of them. Maybe you'll get lucky, but I wouldn't want you to count on one for your trip and them have trouble finding somewhere to stay at the last minute. Just giving my experience.

Just out of curiousity, I did a search of available RCI trades in Germany and Italy for summer of 2007 (between mid-May and the end of August, which is the latest date I could enter for our "tradable" exchange). Only one place showed up in Italy, at a ski resort near Passo Tonale for the week beginning June 2. While they do have summer skiing there, it is not what most people are looking for in Italy. As for Germany, two places showed, one in Mittelfels on the edge of the Black Forest, the other at Schleiden-Gmüund, about 40 miles from Köln; these had several weeks of availability in late July and August. There were, if you are interested, several choices in Austria, and one in Leysin, Switzerland. But overall, there are not many choices. This is one of our gripes about RCI. . .

Thanks for all the information! I guess we might have to look in some different places. I'll try putting a search in for a while, and then if nothing shows up we will have to look for some place else. Any suggestions! We have been to Austria, Budapest, Southern Italy, Ireland, and Spain.

Again, thanks for the information!

Even if you have a search going, call RCI to speak to an actual person also. Keep checking yourself. I've had good luck with this. Got into the only timeshare in Edinburgh. It was great.
Good luck.

Gee, I have friends who bought a time share because the sales people made a big deal about all the wonderful places all over the world they could trade for whenever they wished. Please don't tell me the time share salesman was WRONG!

Hi PrincessDee
I don't know if you are still looking for info on this thread; I came across it while searching for something else.
We stayed in the RCI resort in Gemund a few years ago, and it is a wonderful place to stay if you want to explore the beautiful spa villages, Aachen, parts of Belgium and Netherlands.
The resort is fairly basic; by this I mean no oven in the kitchen, and the fold out sofa lounge wasn't too comfortable for our friends to sleep on. But we loved the area so much, we even spent another day there earlier this year, just for the memories!
Hope this helps, happy travels, Di
