China now ahead of Italy as a tourist destination? Interesting.

It is an interesting article, but , IMO, senstionalist and in many parts wrong. Complaining about the cost of a hot Chocolate in the Cafe Florian for example. You are not paying for the beverage, you are paying for the experience. If you want cheap hot chocolate, move away from the posh areas.

I know it may be more expensive than it was, but I can still eat a superb meal in Italy, for the fraction of the cost of a mediocre meal in the UK.

Great! Lower prices and fewer people.

It's true that you sometimes are paying for the location.
I was amused at prices for bottles of Bellini in Venice.
The cheapest was just over 5 euros and the most expensive near San Marco was ten euros.
