Time to get lowest airfare to Norway
At a travel forum, we heard Pauline Frommer say the best time to get lowest international airfare is 171 days before you want to leave. What are your experiences?
Also, on which airlines have you found the best fares? We plan to visit Bergen, Norway first, then take local airline from Bergen to Copenhagen, where we begin a cruise. Then we fly home from Copenhagen. Tour dates are second week in August to end of August, 2015. thank you! |
Norwegian seems to have the lowest fares to lots of destinations these days. Flights now for August from the west coast from under $1000 RT. From LAX & SFO.

It's all poppy cock, no one knows when the lowest fares will be. The smaller your market (how many Europe flights/day are there?) the more likely the lowest fares are way out, like 10 months, to Europe anyway. For my market, the lowest fares to Europe so far for summer 2015 were posted 16 months out ($750) on the Condor website.

Second-generation travel expert Ms. Frommer is talking through her hat when she sets such a specific guideline. Even the airlines can't be completely certain how their computer-driven fares will unfold. And this year, another battle-hardened consumer (me) was totally wrong about trans-Atlantic fares for May, to my substantial cost. Shop around a lot, be realistic (which means accepting that prices are higher this year) and take the first one that seems reasonable in the circumstances and has convenient scheduling.

Keep checking, months in advance, the industry website:
matrix.itasoftware.com until you see what the pricing trends are, then jump. There tends to be very little volatility nowadays. |
