Time required from CDG airport to Louvre Museum?

I would like to know how much time should I allocate to myself (i.e. time for immigration, taxi ride etc) to get to the Louvre if my flight arrives CDG airport around 8:30a during weekday. Thanks.

If you are going straight to the Louvre, what are you doing about a hotel and your baggage? If that isn't an issue, then I wouldn't take a taxi, I'd take the RER which is easy without baggage, and traffic won't be a problem (not to mention much cheaper). Although it is true that the metro line the Louvre is on is not a stop on the RER line from the airport, you have to take a bit of a hike to get between the RER stop and the other line. I'd still do taht if I had not baggage issues.

But either RER and transferring to metro or taxi will probably take you about an hour, all told. Traffic can be really bad at that time of day going into the city. Once I came in at that time of day and the taxi fare was pretty high, at least 60 euro, due to blockages on the highway.

Other cheap ways are to take the Roissybus from the airport to the Opera, and then the metro line does goes directly from the Opera to the Louvre.

If you are thinking of taking luggage to the Louvre, they do have a luggage room and can check it, but it must be small and adhere to airline carryon baggage size limits, which means no suitcase larger than the 22" height ones. getting there early means they should have room for it, though.

Will you really be able to enjoy such a large museum after a overnight flight?

To straight answer your question, probably by 10:30, if luggage isn't held up and the traffic isn't too bad.
Why are you doing this? LOL (smiley face)

Newhere.. according to other posts you are arriving with three small children. So I can't even understand why you think you should go from airport straight to museum after a long flight.. crazy!!! The Louvre is VERY crowded and you will wait in lines ... with small tired children???
What about your luggage.. they will not take all your luggages at museum .

Finally you asked about pickpockets. Yes, you must be careful. Carry most of money in your moneybelt worn underneath your clothes.. then you can choose to leave it in hotel safe.. or continue to use hotel safe. Keep your purse worn in front of you.. it should be a purse that closes properly. I keep my cash inside my purse in an inside zippered compartment too.. not in a bulky wallet that would be easy for a pickpocket to feel and grab .

Also in another post you said you would stay in tourist areas and avoid alleys.. thinking it would make it safe from pickpockets .. but the fact is BUSY tourist areas have MORE pickpockets then quiet streets.. pickpockets LOVE the crowds.. so watch your stuff and even in the Louvre.. watch people do not get too close to you.

Your trip sounds very very ambitious. I know you have been to Paris before.. but this is your first time with three children under 7.. I suggest you slow down and do not plan so much.

To segue to the cash keeping strategies--I keep some in a wallet with nothing else in it (credit cards are on my person). Other cash is in a fanny pack arranged toward the front. My handbag is an across the body with a substantial strap.
Different credit card carried by me and DH.

thank you so so much for all of your advice. sorry that i was not clear in my question. we are going to check in our luggage at our hotel first (which is close to the louvre). we recently found out that our friend will be in paris as well. since we are heading to the countryside the next day, i'm just trying to figure out how realistic it is to meet up and what time the day we arrive. i already have the ticket to the eiffel tower that afternoon. that's why i thought late morning/early afternoon might work. nah, maybe it is too ambitious...we should just try to find a time to meet while we are in the states.
we'll make sure we have minimum on us so that we have enough hands for our kids=) thank you all again for your help. you guys are great! =)

In which section of the Louvre are you interested in?
The visit of the whole museum would take days!

socaltraveler Mar 25th, 2015 08:58 AM

Can you not meet your friend for a meal or a garden walk before your Eiffel Tower visit? Coming off a plane, with 3 small children in tow, I would skip the Louvre. Sounds beyond exhausting to me.

oh, well, that makes more sense, you just said the Louvre because that's about where your hotel is. I see more than one section of the Louvre, and only spend a few hours there. You can see more than one section, for sure.

yeah, it does make sense maybe before leaving for eiffel.
it is so hard to predict kid's schedule. that's why we have been staying close to the major tourist sites when we travel.
thank you all again for your advice.
