Time now needed to change planes AMS?
Wondering if anyone knows how much time is needed to change planes at Schipol with the increased security due to all the terrorist attacks. Flying from US on Delta into AMS at at 10:10 and catching KLM to Istanbul... We have one hour and 10 minutes...IF our flight from US is on time. No idea on gates.
I know AMS is typically pretty efficient but I was there in October (From Florence headed back to US) and experienced a heightened level of security and time that I had never experienced previously. We almost missed our flight and we had 1 hour 45...but at a particularly busy time but pre bombings.

I would anticipate several additional safety checks and definitely leave yourself more time - esp since you are going to Istanbul.
(I flew out of Lisbon once back to JFK when their was heightened security - not in europe but there had been a major incident in Israel - and we went through 3 extra security checks, were kept in a separate holding area, and eventually we were bussed out to the plane - at the far end of the airport - which was surrounded by armed soldiers - and had our passports checked yet again when we started up the stairs to the plane.)

You will see more armed police about than normal.
If you are carrying liquids you purchased before departure in the US, which are in a sealed duty-free bag you must go to the Transfer Liquids Checkpoint at the start of pier D to have it approved for onward flight.
This video shows transferring at Schiphol for non Schengen flights. https://www.klm.com/travel/gb_en/pre...ions/index.htm
I can't see how they could add extra security now they have centralised it before passport control, without making everyone enter the Netherlands and re-enter the secure zone. That would add a lot of time and make the crowds almost impossible I imagine.
Flights from the US normally arrive early, but bear in mind than taxiing to the terminal at Schiphol can take nearly 30 minutes on occasion.

Yes, flights may take 30 minutes to taxi once they land, but the scheduled arrival time is arrival time at the GATE, not "wheels down." If the typical taxi time for that flight is 20 minutes at Schiphol, that will be built into the schedule. If a 30 minute taxi means the flight arrives at the gate ten minutes later than scheduled, it's the same as landing 10 minutes late but taxiing the usual amount of time.

I too am considering connection time at Schiphol for an upcoming connection there. I'm scheduled to arrive from the US at 8:30a and have a connecting flight out at 10:20a. That's normally plenty of time to connect and probably still is, but in my case, I'll have to go through immigration (flying on to a Schengen country). I assume connection will take a little longer now. Because I'm booking the connecting flight on my own, I am taking a risk that if I miss it, I'm out of luck - but I've taken this chance plenty of times and know the risks.

Like most hub airports around the world you do not have to go through passport control on an international-international connection.
You will go through security checks where document checks may occur

re: IST connection
I connected to IST via AMS last year. For my KLM flights, the departure gate to IST was practically across the hall from the arrival gate, no AMS Schengen passport control or general security check.
HOWEVER, this did not mean the transfer was fast. In fact, a flight to another Schengen zone would have taken less time.
The IST departure had a separate (Turkey specific?) security check at their gate before I entered the waiting lounge. They only had one security check machine. It took more than 30 min to go through this process. This was even before the recent incidences.
