Time needed to transfer from terminal 2 to terminal 1 at Frankfurt airport

Hi,

I am travelling in September from US to Dresden via London on the flight below:

British Airways : BA0914 :
  • London Heathrow, Terminal 5
    16:30, Tuesday 20 September
  • Frankfurt, Terminal 2
  • 19:15, Tuesday 20 September
Lufthansa 216 :
FRA 10:15 PM
0h 55m Non-stop
DRS 11:10 PM

These are going to be 2 different tickets and I have 3 hours to change flights at Frankfurt airport.
I think I will need to do immigration/customs on terminal 2 and then, transfer to terminal 1, check in for Lufthansa flight.
Are 3 hours sufficient to make this connection at the Frankfurt airport?
Please advise.
Thanks.
V

Yes, 3 hrs is plenty of time regardless, unless your incoming flight is significantly delayed....

You will go through immigration at FRA but not customs. That'll you do upon arrival at DRS but that's just walking out the green lane door.

You can and should check-in for your Lufthansa flight ahead of time - you don't need to go to the counter to check-in. Get the Lufthansa app on your phone ahead of time.

If you have bags checked, you may or may not be able to check them all the way through from the US to DRS. Ask when you get to your home departure airport. BA and LH are not the same alliance, so I'm guessing you can't.

If you need to get your bags at FRA and drop them off, you'll still have plenty of time, but it means you will need to go to the check-in desk and leave the secure area.

If you only have carry on, then you may even be able to stay in the secure area at FRA. I believe you can do this even T1 to T2, but I don't recall exactly.

but anyway, 3hrs is fine.

Thanks J62.
I am not looking to check bags. I will have a carry on and laptop bag.
But it seems like I will have 2 different tickets.
Worst case for me is if I dont get a boarding pass on my LH App and they, ask me to get out.
If I have to get out and get back in, I dont know if 3 hours is enough.
Maybe I can get LH BP at London airport.
I am trying to see if I can get both on the same ticket.

You will not to leave the terminal. Lufthansa allows online checking 24hr before departure - this is not new to them…

In the unlikely event that you cannot checkin online or on the app 24hrs before departure you can simply go up to a LH service center or even the gate in T2

Worst case you have to leave the secure area and go back to clean in you still have plenty of time.

if you already bought your tickets then there it’s not possible to put them on a single ticket.
